Dubai Jumeirah 2010

Its my first trip in dubai at this time of the year...not soo hot.
its also a very busy time with lots of events happening around dubai.
I have spent most of my time so far moving up and down Jumeirah beach road, one of longest, busy and rich.
Here you will see all the latest expensive cars, big villas nice restaurants and lots of shopping malls and of course the Jumeirah grand mosque
My favourite so far is the Italian themed with its unique blend of Tuscan and Venetian architecture that will continue to tell the extraordinary tales of exceptional beauty and creativity of the Renaissance period for many years to come. walked down charming cobbled streets, relax along a bright piazza, enjoy a romantic dinner and latest movie Mercato.
Mercato has everything all the other malls have.
There is the grand cinema, spinneys supermarket, virgin megastore, next, laura ashley, starbucks and costa.
and you can see Thoe Paphitis presence with La senza.
They also have a lively food court and yes they have my favourite cinnabon

All the famous milleners (yes hat makers )have set up shop at malls selling their ascot style hats.It seems like they are doing a good business.

The Dubai world cup - dubbed the richest horse race in the world is happening this weekend.
I am looking forward to see all the famous people including the Emirates royals.
The world cup is being hosted at the Meydan racecourse. The design of the grandstand is record breaking.

Elton John will perform on the 27th of march.

Jumeirah Mosque Open Doors. Open Minds.

After the daily visit to the clinic we stopped at the Palm Strip mall opposite Jumeirah grand mosque. Even better views of the mosque and Burj Khalifa. You can hear the Adhan (call to prayer) from the mall. When it was time for prayers i just crossed the road. The masjid is even more beautiful inside. once inside we are all the same from the millionaires with their expensive 4 wheel drive hummers, landcruisers and BWM's to the dock workers. No difference all muslims attending the friday prayers. Jumeirah mosque is open for tours to all to increase awareness and understanding between various nationalities living and visiting the Emirates. The Open Doors. Open Minds . mosque tour takes one hour and a quarter, and visitors are invited to discover more about the life and religion of the Emirates by asking as many questions as possible. Every Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday at 10:00am Jumeirah Mosque

Planned port could distort tourist resort

LAMU, Kenya — The evening call to prayer here is like a summons, for everyone on the island. As the sun dives toward the ocean, the Muslim residents stream into the mosques, little boys wearing impossibly bright white skullcaps, their mothers in diaphanous, black head-to-toe gowns. The last of the bikini-clad tourists pick themselves up from the beach, dust off the powdery sand and head back to the hotel for a drink. Lamu is one of the last outposts of pure Swahili culture. Lamu has been like this for decades, a historic seafaring place where modernity has been gracefully folded into traditional culture without completely spoiling it. The snaky alleyways of the island’s old town (which the United Nations recognizes as a World Heritage site), the omnipresent smells of donkey dung and sweetly rotting fruit and the crescent-sailed dhows plying the sea make the island feel like a glass museum case — one with a living culture inside. But all that may be about to change. To the dismay of man...
